Nairobi Birding Tours is your home for all birding trips and safaris around Kenya’s capital city and beyond. Our birding tours are designed around Nairobi city and its environs; with a radius of about 170 kilometres from the city centre. We tour all available birding spots and are continually developing new tour routes for you to enjoy on your next safari.
Nairobi and its environs have some of the best birding opportunities globally. In the city, we have Nairobi National Park, which is the only national park located inside a capital city. The park is a magnet for birds, both residents and migrants, and has a checklist of over 500 species. Within a radius of 170 kilometres, we have over 30 birding hotspots, with incredible avian diversity.
Some of Kenya’s endemic bird species are located within our area, such as the Sharpe’s Longclaw, Hinde’s Pied Babbler, Jackson’s Francolin (Jackson’s Spurfowl), Aberdare Cisticola, Snowy Barbet (Brown-and-white Barbet) and Kikuyu White-eye. Our area also hosts many East African endemic bird species, such as Grey-crested Helmetshrike, Red-throated Tit, Northern Pied Babbler, Hidebrandt’s Starling, Abbott’s Starling, Jackson’s Widowbird, Southern Grosbeak Canary, Sentinel Lark, Hartlaub’s Turaco, Lynes’s Cisticola, Hunter’s Cisticola, Black-lored Babbler and Kenya Rufous Sparrow.
Our birding safaris and tours range from half-day excursions, to full day tours and also overnight trips. We are always very happy to customize trips based on your individual or group’s needs. We can help you select the best birding tour, based on your target species, avian seasonality or time availability.
Our birding safari guides are professional and passionate birders, living and working in Nairobi. They bring a wide array of experience, having traveled across many habitats in Kenya. Our birding tour guides are always happy to assist you in setting up for the best photos, to maximize light or animal behaviour. This yields greater success when documenting the wildlife you see on your tour or safari.
Our area has some of the most-famous landscapes and habitats globally. During our birding safaris, you can get to enjoy Africa’s second-highest mountain (Mt. Kenya) and Kenya’s third-highest mountain (Aberdare Ranges – Ole Satima Peak). You can also enjoy the Great Rift Valley and her beautiful lake system during our birding tours.
We are lucky to be within driving distances of many ecological biomes and habitats such as Alpine Moorland, Highland Grasslands, Mid-altitude Savannah, Somali-Maasai Biome Drylands, Bamboo Forests, Mixed Tropical Rainforests and diverse Wetlands (Lakes, Swamps, Bogs and Rivers).

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Kenya. Much booking was done by our agent, but the birding/sightseeing bookings were made through Cisticola Tours. Manager, Washington, was very helpful, and a ten day tour was agreed upon.
